These are, for the most part, very well made chisels.Cr-V is a common steel used in chisels. It's tough, more rust resistant than plain carbon steels, and holds an edge reasonably well.Nice finish on these. Smooth, uniform, and no machining marks.They are very nicely ground with straight and square edges. Sharp, and ready to go with a few swipes on the strop.These are tang type chisels with what looks to be genuine ash handles. They have a large bolster, but no ferrule! Hopefully the handles will hold up anyway. I am considering adding ferrules myself.The ash handles have a thin clear finish, and a good but unprotected striking surfaceThe grain is not particularly straight on the ones I got.The set consists of one square, one skew, a parting, two spoon gouges, and an assortment of width and depth gouges make up the balance. A very good starter set.They come in a heavy canvas roll that keeps them together and sharp. Uses traditional ties rather than velcro.A nice ten ounce nylon mallet is included.For the price, it would be difficult to find a better set than this one.

Good quality for the money

This is a very attractive and complete assortment of wood carving tools. They are well made and the handles are very comfortable. The tools are extremely sharp and very durable. The assortment includes most every tool needed for successful wood carving projects. The tools are of great quality and super craftsmanship. They are well worth the cost.

For the price, this is a really good set of wood carving tools. You get 12 chisels, a reasonable roll-up canvas bag and a 10 oz nylon hammer. The octagonal white ash handles remind me of the design of some high-end chisels that I have. Theses handles are a little bit narrower, but are still comfortable to hold and use. The vanadium steel chromium alloy is finished very well. This are pretty sharp “out of the box”, but I’d recommended having a leather strop handy. I find that by keeping the edge sharp with continual stropping greatly reduces or eliminates getting the sharpening stones out.The canvas bag provides protection for the chisels (and you) and the chisels also come with a small black plastic blade protector that’s reusable. The 10 oz nylon hammer is just about the right size/weight to tap the chisels with, vice using your palm which you shouldn’t really do.This is a diverse set of wood chisels that would be great to have for learning to wood carve. Us woodworkers always say, “you can never have enough clamps”, but I wonder if the same could be said about chisels?
